Yes, We Accept the CDCP — Here's Everything You Need to Know

Let's be honest — for a lot of us, the cost of dental care is exactly why we put off booking. A cleaning gets pushed to "next month," next month becomes next year, and before you know it, that small twinge you ignored has turned into something a lot more involved (and a lot more expensive).

That's where the Canadian Dental Care Plan comes in. And yes, we're proud to say Cinnia Dental accepts it!

We know it's a lot to take in, so we sat down and put together the friendly, no-jargon version — what it is, who it's for, and how to actually use it.

So, what actually is the CDCP?

Think of it as the federal government stepping in to subsidize the cost of dental care for Canadians who don't already have coverage through work, a pension, or a private plan — as long as your household income falls under a certain amount. It's a subsidy, not a full ride — but for a lot of families, it makes a real difference in what a visit actually costs out of pocket.

One thing worth knowing upfront: coverage isn't a one-and-done thing. You'll need to reapply each year, after you've filed your taxes, to keep your coverage active.

Would you qualify?

Here's the quick version. You're likely eligible if:

  • You (and your spouse, if you have one) have filed your taxes and you're a Canadian resident.

  • Your household income comes in under $90,000 a year.

  • You don't already have dental coverage — through your job, a pension, or anyone else's plan.

And the good news is the plan is now open to eligible Canadians of every age.

You can apply through your My Service Canada Account on canada.ca, or by phone through Service Canada.

What does it actually cover?

Most of what brings you in regularly is covered — exams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatments, fillings, extractions, and root canals. A few services need pre-approval, and some (like implants) aren't covered at any income level.

Not sure whether something you need is covered? We'll check for you before any treatment begins.

A quick, honest chat about "balance billing"

If you've been reading around about the CDCP, you may have run into the term "balance billing" and felt a little uneasy about it. We get it — so let's clear it up.

The CDCP pays according to its own fee schedule, set by the federal government. Our fees are set based on the local provincial dental association's fee guide — a standard schedule that reflects what it actually costs to provide great care here, like staff, sterilization, and materials, not something we set on a case-by-case basis. Those two numbers aren't always exactly the same — and when there's a gap, that difference is what people mean by "balance billing," which is the patient's responsibility to cover.

The good news: we can always check your coverage ahead of time, so you'll know exactly what's covered and what (if anything) you'd owe — no surprises, just an honest conversation up front.

We can't wait to see you smile

Your smile deserves great care, and now it's a little easier to get there. When you're ready, just bring your CDCP letter or card along, and let us take it from here
